Push open the door of Ahmad's babouche workshop in the heart of Agadir for an artisanal immersion into leatherwork. A cobbler since 1991, trained by his uncle, he carries on a traditional skill with passion, sometimes helped by Oussama, a young craftsman he trained himself. There is no fuss here: you are welcomed straight into his workshop. All around you, the tools, the hides and the distinctive smell of leather immediately set the tone. Before your visit, you will have chosen your model, babouches or Birkenstocks, so that the sole is ready. And then all that is left is to create! You will go through every stage: drawing the template, cutting, machine stitching, assembly and gluing. The atmosphere is simple and warm, paced by conversation with Ahmad and punctuated with a few words of Darija picked up along the way. Little by little, your pair of babouches takes shape in your hands. And you leave with a useful, lasting object, and above all one made entirely by you. A hands-on, authentic experience for discovering craftsmanship in Agadir, right alongside those who keep it alive.

HOW TO PREPARE WELL FOR YOUR AGADIR BABOUCHE WORKSHOP
When you sign up, we will ask you to choose the babouche model you would like (you can pick the colour on the spot), your shoe sizes and whether you have narrow or wide feet, so that the craftsman can prepare the soles of your babouches before you arrive.
Wear comfortable clothing that lets you sit easily. You do not normally get stained during the workshop, but if you are a Mr or Mrs Clumsy, bring clothes that can take a knock!
During the workshop, you will use a special glue at one or two stages, and may inhale some solvents. Masks are available at the workshop if you are sensitive to this: do not hesitate to ask the craftsman for one.
The length of the workshop depends on your pace and the number of participants, so it can vary between 3 and 4 hours.
