Embroidery Workshop on a Farm

atelier broderie a Agadir _ broderie_blanc

Just 40 minutes from Agadir, a family farm tucked away in the Moroccan countryside opens its doors for a creative and meditative embroidery workshop, rooted in an art that holds a central place in Moroccan artisanal heritage and is passed down from generation to generation within households. Oumayma welcomes you over a mint tea and homemade sweets, before guiding you through the family estate to share the challenges and joys of a return to the land after a career as an economics specialist. It is in this soothing setting, between olive trees and birdsong, that your embroidery workshop takes on its full meaning: Oumayma introduces you to the tools and the movements, stitches, knots and thread tension, before the decisive step, choosing the colours. A vivid Majorelle blue for a touch of modernity, or a soft olive green to stay in harmony with the vegetable garden? Once your pattern is drawn and your threads selected, you transfer your creation onto a tote bag that becomes your canvas. Concentration turns into meditation, and as your hands take to these age-old gestures of Moroccan embroidery, the atmosphere grows warm and the laughter flows. You leave with a unique embroidered bag and the memory of a wonderful encounter in Berber country.

HOW TO PREPARE WELL FOR YOUR EMBROIDERY WORKSHOP IN AGADIR

Wear comfortable clothing that lets you sit easily on cushions on the floor.

The workshop takes place outdoors among the olive trees, but will be held indoors in the event of bad weather.

A few tips to avoid any awkward moments: in Morocco, men and women shake hands but do not kiss on the cheek.

You can combine this workshop with our other workshops at the farm (Amazigh calligraphy, traditional brick-making or the cooking workshop) for a full day immersed in Amazigh culture, and/or add lunch before the workshop.

THEY TRIED THE EMBROIDERY WORKSHOP

AND THEY SAY IT BETTER THAN WE COULD!

"A fascinating workshop for art lovers and not only them! We embroidered our own patterns on tote bags, after practising on a sampler: a lovely souvenir of Morocco to bring home with us! Thank you so much for this workshop."
Clothilde
"From the moment you arrive, Oumayma's welcome changes everything! Over a mint tea and homemade sweets, she takes the time to tell you how embroidery is passed down from mother to daughter in Moroccan families. Then comes the practice: choosing your pattern, selecting your threads, starting to stitch on the tote bag. You leave with a bag made by your own hands, unique: we loved the experience!"
Baptiste
"We spent a gentle, meditative time embroidering our Amazigh patterns on our tote bags, guided by Oumayma and her kindness. The embroidery workshop took place indoors, in the lovely family living room, because it was raining outside. We will come back to try the other workshops next time!"
