Day trip to the Imlil Valley

Imlil blanc

Set off to explorethe Imlil Valley nestled in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains in south of Marrakesh. It's a breath of fresh , a nature getaway,of escape the hustle and bustle of the red city, and discover the rural and mountain life of Morocco. And above all, I'll be meeting lots of new people!

A driver will take you to Imlil, Morocco (allow around 1h30 drive through beautiful countryside). Once there, you'll set off on foot explore the Imlil valley with your certified mountain guide (and a mule for young children). A walk lasting around 3 hours, with a reasonable gradient but incredible scenery: the route takes you through the picturesque villages in the valley and gives you a chance to immerse yourself in rural Moroccan life (terraced gardens, waterfalls, small irrigation channels, farmers at work, traditional hammams...).

After this warm-up, there's nothing like a good tagine, cooked with love by a Berber family with a big heart: an opportunity to discover a traditional house from the inside. The weavers of Imlil await you for tea, and they will show you how they weave the famous Berber carpets: you will be able to admire their technical skills and the speed with which they weave these carpets ancestral gestures, handed down from mother to daughter. Of course, if you feel like it, you can try your hand at it too, but be warned: they're no match for you! Then it's back to Marrakech at the end of the day, tired but with a whole new energy!

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR TRIP TO IMLIL?

Please specify your preferred date at the time of booking.

Bring good sneakers or walking shoes (no smooth soles), and something to cover up in winter and between seasons (you'll be at 1700m altitude at the lowest): the ideal is to have several layers of clothing, which you can take off or put back on as temperatures change. In summer, don't forget your cap and sunscreen!

Don't forget to bring a bottle of water per person, and possibly a small snack to give you strength halfway through the hike.

If you prefer to bring a small gift for your hosts instead of leaving a tip, local culinary or artistic specialties from your region are always a good idea.

THEY TRIED THE IMLIL DAY TRIP

AND THEY SAY IT BETTER THAN WE DO!

‘A day in Imlil that was rejuvenating and full of sharing. We hiked the plateau at the foot of Mont Toukbal. For lunch, we enjoyed a tajine in a traditional family home. Then we met some weavers who showed us how to make carpets. A wonderful moment of sharing and exchange.’
Mylène
‘A big thank you, we had a great day, full of discoveries and authenticity with a really lovely guide. Thank you for everything!’

Cécile
‘A very pleasant day. I especially liked the meal with the family, super local, we were served like princes. In the morning we walked in the mountains, it was beautiful, it was warm and it took us out of the noise of Marrakech. On the way back, we stopped at an argan oil cooperative at our request. It was very interesting. A great day out!’
