Berber Cooking Workshop on a Farm

Atelier cuisine berbère blanc

Escape the coastal bustle of Agadir for a day and head to a family farm just 40 minutes away, to try your hand at Berber cooking in a setting quite unlike any other. A truly peaceful sanctuary filled with olive trees, fruit trees, rose bushes and some very chatty resident peacocks! Oumayma and her family welcome you with traditional tea and, above all, a great deal of generosity. A former economics specialist in Rabat turned guardian of her ancestors' land, Oumayma will share with you the story of this ecological project and her vision of an authentic Morocco. Then comes the moment to get hands-on with a rather unusual Berber cooking workshop, held outdoors in a unique open-air kitchen built from earth and bamboo. Under the guidance of Oumayma and her mother Souad, you will learn the secrets of Moroccan "slow food" using traditional tools, a stone mortar for the spices and a terracotta kanoun for the fire, to prepare an authentic chicken and vegetable tagine along with a seasonal Moroccan starter. While the meal simmers, a tour of the farm is the perfect chance to feed the hens and listen to the birdsong. The morning ends around a shared table outdoors beneath an enormous ficus tree, tasting the fruits of your work in an atmosphere of simple, sincere generosity. More than a meal, this Berber cooking workshop is a real moment of connection with the land and those who cultivate it.

HOW TO PREPARE WELL FOR YOUR BERBER COOKING WORKSHOP

Wear comfortable clothing that lets you sit easily on cushions on the floor.

The workshop takes place outdoors, but will be held indoors in the event of bad weather.

A few tips to avoid any awkward moments: in Morocco, men and women shake hands but do not kiss on the cheek.

You can combine this workshop with our other workshops at the farm (embroidery, traditional brick-making or the cooking workshop) for a full day immersed in Amazigh culture, and/or add lunch before the workshop.

THEY TRIED THE BERBER COOKING WORKSHOP IN AGADIR

AND THEY SAY IT BETTER THAN WE COULD!

"We had a wonderful time with Oumayma and her mother. We spent the day outdoors learning Berber cooking, laughing together, listening to the birdsong and the wind in the olive trees. An unforgettable moment of our trip, and the children loved looking after the baby lambs and feeding them!"

Sabrina
"The first thing that struck us was the welcome: Oumayma and her mother are there, the tea is hot, the homemade sweets are laid out on the table, and you truly feel welcome, not like passing tourists. Here you cook in the open air, and it is so much more enjoyable than any indoor cooking class! It was a delicious moment, both literally and figuratively, and well beyond our expectations: thank you!"
Justin
"A magnificent experience. We made special dishes for Ramadan. During the storm, we had to move indoors, and it was fascinating to see the inside of a Moroccan home. A truly lovely moment of sharing with Oumayma and her mother as we prepared and enjoyed our meal!"
