Marrakech Pottery Workshop

Poterie blanc

Set off with your guide to discover an authentic and charming pottery workshop in Marrakech! Far from the hustle and bustle of the medina, meet Tarik, a young and passionate potter, who will immerse you in the fascinating world of clay and his craft. Tarik will tell you about the different types of clay used, such as the red clay from the Ourika Valley and the white clay from Fez, and reveal the secrets behind how they are transformed. Then it’s time to get hands-on! Before shaping your pieces, the clay needs to be prepared. Kneading and working the clay are on the agenda, but here, we make a game of it. Get ready to show off your best dance moves and have some fun, working barefoot to soften the clay and remove any air bubbles! Laughter guaranteed! Then comes the moment you’ve been waiting for: creating your own pieces. Under Tarik’s expert guidance, you’ll shape several pieces, starting with traditional forms to get familiar with the technique, followed by a unique piece where you can let your imagination run wild. All that’s left is to choose which pieces you want to have fired and wait. The workshop includes the first firing of two creations, which you can collect yourself after around 4 days, depending on drying time and weather conditions. A fun and accessible experience for both children and adults, offering a different way to discover Moroccan craftsmanship! But above all, it’s a chance to meet and connect with a local artisan, with your guide providing translation throughout the experience.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR MARRAKECH POTTERY WORKSHOP?

Plan this activity at the beginning of your stay if you would like to collect your piece yourself, as it will need at least 4 days to dry and be fired, and a little longer if you would like it to be glazed. Otherwise, you can take it back with you at the end of the workshop and let it dry at your hotel before packing it in your suitcase!

Be careful, the clay stains, so even if we lend you a protective apron during the workshop, wear comfortable clothes that can be stained without worry! Also, you'll be going barefoot to prepare the clay, so wearing flip-flops (or taking some with you) will make you feel completely comfortable.

In winter, bring a jumper to stay warm during the workshop and avoid catching a cold.
