Meet your guide at Jemaa el-Fna square and immerse yourself in the lively heart of Marrakech! After a short walk through the bustling souks, you’ll reach a hidden alley echoing with the rhythmic sounds of woodworking tools. Step into a traditional workshop to meet Abdellatif, a passionate master sculptor whose expertise contributed to the historic renovation of the Ben Youssef Medersa. Over a glass of mint tea, he will share the history of his trade and this meticulous art form. Then, it’s your turn! Choose a pattern from several models, set your stencil, and trace the first lines onto your wooden block. A small tip: to ensure you leave with a polished, finished piece at the end of the three-hour session, we recommend selecting a simple and elegant design. With chisel in hand and under Abdellatif’s expert guidance, you will begin carving the wood. This craft requires patience and precision, but you will quickly feel the pride of seeing your sculpture take shape! You’ll learn to create bevels to give your work relief and depth, before Abdellatif assists with the final sanding to reveal every fine detail. This is a truly authentic encounter with a Moroccan artisan—a moment of cultural exchange where you will discover ancestral skills and leave with a one-of-a-kind souvenir handcrafted by your own hands!
